Ten Gift Ideas for Dads

Ten Gift Ideas for Dads

by Canadian Originals June 09, 2017

Father's Day is coming soon and you are probably thinking what to get for the dads in your life. Something useful, something cool, something he'll cherish - and probably not another tie.

Are are some suggestions for gifts they will enjoy:

  1. Get tickets for an activity you can do together. He's golfer? Book a green - now. Add a box of new balls or a glove, maybe that new driver he's been talking about. Fishing enthusiast? How about a tackle box, or a new rod. You get the idea.
  2. Short of funds but you are a good cook or baker? Prepare a meal with all the things he will enjoy. Bake him cookies from scratch, or make a pie. He'll appreciate the effort and thought that you put into it. Alternatively, get a special treat from a local bakery - you still get bonus points.
  3. Skin care products - this may not be the first thing that comes to mind (moms are usually the recipients of these type of gifts) but there are now lots of brands geared to men. Aftershave, sun screen, hand cream - all good things to package prettily in  gift box, and a great opportunity to have Dad try a new brand that he wouldn't splurge on himself.
  4. Tools: this is a classic. Yes, Dad likely has a bunch of tools already but maybe it's time to upgrade to a cordless lawn mower or at least a cordless drill. Most hardware stores are running sales in advance of Father's Day, so it should be easy to find one that suits your Dad.
  5. Plan a family activity that he will enjoy. Maybe it's a hike, or a visit to a local museum. Would he enjoy going to see a show, or would he like to try a new thing? We are escape room enthusiasts so we heartily recommend it as a fantastic family outing. If you haven't tried it yet, check TripAdvisor for a room in your area and get prepared to be challenged and work as a team.
  6. If Dad travels a lot, whether for work or to enjoy retirement, you have a wealth of things to choose from. Splurge on a new high end carry-on, get him a case for his favourite mobile device, or get a toiletry bag and fill it with products.
  7. Is your Dad the master of barbecue? You can get him a new BBQ if you want to spend a lot, or maybe a new set of BBQ tools and a cheeky apron if you have a limited budget. Or how about an assortment of artisanal condiments and spices for a summer of grilling and chilling?
  8. Some Dads are nerds at heart. Maybe they have a favourite fandom (hello Trekkies) or maybe they just love geeky stuff in general. If that's the case, go for some branded items that will loudly proclaim his geekdom: nowadays you can find anything from Star Wars encyclopedias to Firefly tees to a collection of his favourite Zombie series - or how about a Stan Lee limited edition subscription box? Last year we got someone special a set of Game of Thrones glasses and the cookbook based on the books and that was a huge hit.
  9. The professional Dad is sure to have a lot of electronics in his life. If he is like most of us, there is a tangle of wires under his desk, and another in his laptop bag. Help him get organized with a leather catchall to keep his earbuds and charging cords together but separate. Or how about a handsome charging station to keep all his stuff handy and ready to go?
  10. Finally, the best thing you can get Dad is to let him know how loved and appreciated he is. Sure, a store bought card is polished and pretty, but a hand written note and a framed photo of you together will be much more meaningful and certainly appreciated.

Hope you have a wonderful Father's Day!
